Jussi Albert Jääskeläinen is a Finnish professional soccer coach and retired soccer goalkeeper. His career spanned between 1992 and 2018. He achieved a successful career keeping the post for several clubs in England, Finland and India. Additionally, between 2005 and 2009, he was the number one goalkeeper of the Finland national team.
Background & Early Career
He was born in Mikkeli, Finland. He made his professional debut for the Finnish side “MP Mikkeli” at age 17 in 1992. In 1994, he became Mikkeli’s first-choice goalie and recorded 64 caps for the team throughout his stay. He joined VPS Vaasa in 1996 and spent two seasons with the Finnish side.
Club Career Highlights
The most notable years of his career were between 1997 and 2012 when he played for Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League and Division 1. As of 2022, he became the third most-capped Bolton player, having achieved 530 caps. In addition, he was named Bolton’s best player in 2007.
Between 2012 and 2017, he played for West Ham United and Wigan Athletic. In 2007, he moved to “ATK” in the Indian Super League and retired from football in 2018.
Coaching Career
From 2018 until June 2019, he served as interim manager and goalkeeper’s coach of the Wrexham Association Football Club.
