About Julie Taymor
Julie is a talented American who writes for theatre and is also a director.
Personal Life
Her father was a gynecologist while her mother was a professor who taught political science. She got interested in the world of acting and became a part of the Boston Children’s Theatre. Even though she usually was the youngest when she joined theatre groups, it did not hold her back.
As a teenager, her parents got her to India and Sri Lanka to study. She entered L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris after her high school education. She later went to Ohio and schooled in Oberlin College. When she graduated, she won the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for a year where she got the chance to gain more knowledge in her chosen field.
Career
She worked on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with Theatre for a New Audience. The show lasted for an hour and was shown at The Public Theatre. She later worked as the director for “The Tempest”. Her producing “The Lion King” was what got her out there and made her known. It was shown on Broadway in 1997. The show won her the Tony Award for Direction and Costume Design.
