About Julian Castro
Julian Castro first got into politics as a Member of the San Antonio City Council in 2001, breaking the record for the youngest San Antonio city councilman at 26 years old.
In 2009, he won the mayoral elections of San Antonio, having previously lost in his first attempt in 2005. He served as the 181st Mayor of San Antonio from 2009 to 2014, when he was appointed as the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He occupied the office from July 2014 to January 2017.
Family Life
His mother, Maria del Rosario Castro is a civil rights activist. His father, Jessie Guzman used to be a Mathematics teacher. Congressman Joaquin Castro is his identical twin brother. He and his elementary schoolteacher wife, Erica Lira have been married since 2007 and have two children together.
Trivia
His memoir, “An Unlikely Journey: Waking Up from My American Dream” was published in 2018.
