About Joshua Reynolds
A pioneer of the “Grand Manner” art style, English painter Joshua Reynolds earned the reputation as one of the most influential painters during the eighteenth century. He began his career in the 1740s and was admired for his lovely portraits. Amongst his numerous paintings were “Lady Cockburn and Her Three Eldest Sons”, “Colonel Acland and Lord Sydney, The Archers”, and “George Clive and his family with an Indian maid”.
Over the years, his works have been showcased at some renowned art centers like London’s National Gallery, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In 1784, he was appointed to the office of the Principal Painter in Ordinary to the King.

He was one of the children of Rev. Samuel Reynolds and had three siblings named Mary Palmer, Elizabeth Johnson, and Frances Reynolds.
