About Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith was an American religious leader best known for being the founder of Mormonism and the Latter day Saint movement. He attracted a legion of followers after publishing the Book of Mormon and establishing the Church of Christ (Latter Day Saints) in 1830. The members of his church are known as the Latter Day Saints or Mormons. He was murdered at the age of 38 by an angry mob.
Family Life
He was born to Lucy Mack Smith and Joseph Smith Sr. He married his first wife Emma Hale in 1827 and fathered 11 children with her. He remained married to her until his death in 1844. He had several other wives in addition to Emma.
Trivia
He taught and encouraged his followers to practice polygamy.
