About Jonas Salk
Jonas Salk was an American medical researcher and virologist.
His Highlights/Legacy
He discovered the first polio vaccine in 1952, thus saving thousands of lives. 4 years earlier, he undertook a project funded by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to determine the number of types of polio virus.
In 1960, he founded the "Salk Institute for Biological Studies" in California, which nowadays is a center for medical research.
His Personal Life
He was married twice and he had 3 children. His second wife was painter and writer Françoise Gilot, the former mistress of painter Pablo Picasso!
