Johnny Hallyday fell in love with the rock n' roll genre during the 1950s, and he was widely celebrated for introducing the genre to his native country, France. With the help of Vogue records, he issued his first song in 1960 which was titled "Laisse les filles". That same year, he launched his eponymous maiden album.
Throughout his over five decades in the music industry, he published a total of 79 albums with some of them titled “Rock'n'Roll Attitude” and “Ce que je sais”. His frequent collaborations with international musicians like Tommy Brown and Mick Jones made him a global icon.
Acting career
His success in the music industry earned him roles in many films and television shows. He’s best known for his title role in the 2006 film “Jean-Philippe”. His other works include “Détective” and “Vengeance”.
Family
At birth, he was named Jean-Philippe Smet. He was born to Huguette Eugénie Pierrette Clerc and Léon Smet, but was raised by Hélène Mar, his aunt.
He was married to Læticia Boudou. Before the couple came together, Hallyday had been in three different marriages. His most publicized one was to actress and singer Sylvie Vartan. He also married and divorced Babeth Étienne, and Adeline Blondieau.
Trivia
At the initial stages of his career, he looked up to singer Elvis Presley. He was later nicknamed "the French Elvis".
He adopted his stage name from his cousin-in-law who was then known in showbiz as Lee Halliday.
