American musician, Johnny Copeland was one of the leading blues singers of his time and his album, “Copeland Special” was considered to be one of his best works.
Music Career
Copeland made his music debut in 1956, recording singles like “Rock ‘n’ Roll Lilly” and “Down on Bending Knees.” It wasn’t until two decades later that he found immense success and released 11 albums between 1981 and 1999.
Awards & Recognition
He won the 1981 WC Handy Award and won a Grammy Award for “Best Traditional Blues Album” in 1987. Copeland was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.
Family
He died in 1997 and was survived by his wife and children. His daughter, Shemekia is a successful blues singer.
