He was the son of Jim and Judy Overton Rich. He went to school at Dickson County Senior high.
In 2008, he exchanged wedding vows with Joan, by whom he has two sons namely Cash and Colt.
Lonestar and Other Career Highlights
He was employed as a singer at a theme park called Opryland USA. He later joined the group Lonestar, which was formerly known as Texasee. John Rich served as the base guitarist of the group. He also wrote two songs for the band namely “Come Cryin’ to Me” and “Say When”. He departed from the group in 1998 to become a solo artist.
Solo Career
As a solo artist, he released singles such as “Shut Up About Politics”, “Country Done Come to Town” and “Shuttin’ Detroit Down”. The latter, released in 2009, reached number 12 on the US Country charts.
In 2002, Rich formed a group with Big Kenny and together they produced albums such as “Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace” and “Comin’ to Your City."

He became a songwriter and wrote hit songs for artists like Faith Hill and Jason Aldean. Additionally, he has served as a producer of some records by American singers Gretchen Wilson and Keith Anderson.

Trivia
Rich supported Fred Thompson during his presidential race and also released a campaign song for the late U.S. Senator John McCain.
