About John Randolph
John Randolph was an American politician who was a member of congress and former ambassador to Russia. He popularly went by “John Randolph of Roanoke” to set himself apart from his father.
Early Years
Randolph was born into a wealthy Virginia family. He was diagnosed with Klinefelter syndrome, an illness that caused him to be beardless and maintain his prepubescent voice throughout his life.
Career
When he was 26, Randolph entered the world of politics as a member of the US Congress. He spent his time in congress advocating against slavery. In 1825, he was appointed to the US Senate during the administration of President John Adams.
Personal Life & Achievements
Randolph served in the senate until his death in 1833. He was a member of the American Antiquarian Society. The World War II Liberty ship SS John Randolph was named after him.
