About John Rae
John Rae abandoned his work as a surgeon to embark on a voyage to explore parts of Canada. He went on his first mission in 1836 when he, alongside Thomas Simpson, traveled along the Gulf of Boothia. The Scottish explorer was made one of the leaders of the Rae–Richardson Arctic Expedition which sought to find evidence about the missing Franklin Polar Expedition.
He’s also known as one of the founders of the Hamilton Scientific Association. His skills and personal stamina helped him to complete many missions.
