American explorer John Henry Mears made history after embarking on the fastest sea trip around the globe in 1913. He used only 35 days to finish his adventure which became the new world record.
He broke his record in 1928 after completing the same task in less than 24 days. Later that year, he published an autobiography titled “Racing the Moon”.

He was married to Hannah Hunt Mears.
Trivia
Mears was a member of the Royal Navy and rose to the position of a lieutenant.
He was also a producer and worked on Broadway plays.
But for a damaged aircraft, he would have embarked on another journey in 1930.
