Welsh soccer star John Hartson began his professional career in 1992 with Luton Town. After three successful years with the team, he was signed by Arsenal FC in a deal worth £2.5 million, becoming Britain’s most expensive teenager. He helped the team to reach the final of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1995 before joining West Ham United two years later.
The striker became a household name in 2001 after joining Celtic in Scotland. With the team, he won three Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups, and a Scottish League Cup. He also starred for teams like Wimbledon, West Bromwich Albion, and Coventry City.
International career
Hartson played 51 times for the Welsh senior team during his ten years spell. He made his debut in 1995 and went on to establish himself as one of the country’s most prolific goal scorers.
Family
He is one of the offspring of Diana and Cyril Hartson. He has three siblings called Victoria, James, and Hayley. In 2009, he married Sarah McManus, his second wife.
Achievements
Hartson was named Welsh Footballer of the Year in 1998, 2001, and 2003. He was elected as the FAI International Personality in 2016.
