About John Dos Passos
John Dos Passos was an American novelist, playwright, poet, painter, journalist and translator. Influenced by his experiences while serving in World War I as a volunteer ambulance driver, he wrote his first novel, “One Man’s Intuition: 1917” in 1920 and his second, “Three Soldiers” in 1921. He achieved commercial success with his 1925 novel, “Manhattan Transfer”. He is widely known as the author of the trilogy, “U.S.A.”. A well-travelled man, he also had his political philosophy about socialism changed after visiting the Soviet Union, a socialist state.
Family Life
He was the product of an affair between his father, John Randolph Dos Passos and his mother, Lucy Addison while the former was married. He had one daughter, Lucy Hamlin Dos Passos. He was married twice: first to Katharine Smith from 1929 to 1947 and then to Elizabeth Hamlyn Holdridge from 1949 until his death.

He received the Antonio Feltrinelli Prize.
