The adept military strategist was born in northern California. John is of Lebanese descent. His paternal grand-parents migrated to the US in the late 19th century.

John commanded military units mostly in the Middle East. He was also involved in missions during the invasion of Grenada and the Persian Gulf War.

After 34 years of active military service, the four-star general retired and went into the private sector. He took up a senior partner role in JPA Partners, LLC, a firm that provides private entities with consultancy services in security, business and strategy.
