About Joe Root
Skilled cricketer Joseph Edward Root began his career as a right-handed batsman before transferring to the middle rank, where he has played the majority of his games. He rose to fame on a global scale for his valiant efforts against Australia in the Ashes series.
Early Life
He attended Dore Primary and King Ecgbert School in Sheffield and Worksop College at the age of 15 thanks to a cricket scholarship.
Career
At age 17, he struck 57 domestic runs to earn his national debut for Yorkshire. In 2014, he became the team's captain and was a member of Yorkshire's inaugural squad. That same year, he assisted Yorkshire in winning the County League.
He made his national team debut against India in a test match in 2012, and his 73 runs in the opening session helped England win the test series.
In April 2022, he was signed by the Trent Rockets for the 2022 season of "The Hundred," a professional franchise 100-ball cricket competition featuring eight men's and women's teams based in notable English and Welsh cities.
Awards
- In 2020, he was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
