About Joe Dumars
During the 1980s and 90s, Joe Dumars’s basketball career could be described as simply amazing. Mostly used as a point or shooting guard, he spent the majority of his playing days with NBA side, Detroit Pistons. However, his breakthrough came during his time at McNeese State University where he was an integral member of their basketball team.
When he ended his playing career, he took up the position of the president of basketball operations at Detroit Pistons in 2000. He helped the team to win the NBA championship in 2004 and recorded six consecutive Eastern Conference Finals appearance from 2003 to 2008.
As an astute businessman, he founded the Detroit Technologies in 1996.
Family
The American was raised in a family full of athletes. His five brothers, including David Dumars, were all famous football players. His dad, who was simply known as Big Joe, helped him to develop his basketball talent. He married a lady known as Debbie in 1989.
Achievements
He won two NBA championships while playing for the Detroit Pistons. He was included in the NBA All-Star team on six different occasions. In 1985, he was named the ‘Southland Player of the Year’, and received the ‘NBA Sportsmanship Award’ in 1996.
In 2006, he joined other former basketball stars in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
