Jo Marie Payton started her acting career in the 1970s but had her breakthrough in 1987 when she played the Harriette Winslow role in the television series “Perfect Strangers”. She recreated the role in its spin-off titled “Family Matters”. The American actress also played the Mrs. Freeman character in the sitcom “Will & Grace”.

She came out of three different marriages before tying the knot with Leonard Downs in 2007. She had a child with her first husband Marc France named Chantale France.

After completing his education at Miami Carol City Senior High School, she enrolled at Albany State University.
