James Warren White, famously called Jimmy White is a renowned English professional snooker star. He is known in the snooker world as “The Whirlwind” for his highly prolific fluid style of playing and attacking systems.
Background & Early Career
He was born in Tooting, England. He attended Ernest Bevin School; however, he disliked academic work and often spent school hours at the Ted Zanoncelli snooker hall.
In 1979 and at age 17, he won the snooker “English Amateur Championship”. He then turned professional in 1980 and went on to win the “World Amateur Snooker Championship” at age 18, becoming the youngest player ever to win the championship at the time.
Career Highlights & Achievements
In 1984, he caught the eye of many snooker lovers when he reached the “World Championship” finals and unfortunately lost the game. In addition to his 1984 loss, he lost all five consecutive World Championship finals he reached between 1990 and 1994.
He was also the first-ever left-handed player to achieve a maximum break at the World Championship.
He won the 1984 Masters, 1992 UK Championship, 2009 Six-red World Championship, 2019 Seniors 6-Red World Championship, 2010, 2019 & 2020 World Seniors Championship and the 1984 World Doubles championship with fellow player Alex Higgins.
In 1988 and 1989, he won the snooker World Cup with Team England.
