About Jimmy Swaggart
Jimmy Lee Swaggart started out in full-time evangelism in 1955, when he was very poor and struggled to feed his family. The Assemblies of God Church ordained him as a minister six years later. In 1962, he started transmitting his ministry on radio.
His church, the Family Worship Centre, was founded in the late 1960s and was affiliated to the Assemblies of God until his personal scandals in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
His television shows “A Study in the Word” and “Jimmy Swaggart Telecast” have reached millions of people worldwide.
Family Life
He has been married to Frances Anderson since 1952. He was 17 and she was 15 at the time. They are parents to one son, Donnie, who is also a preacher in Swaggart’s church.
Sex Scandals
Swaggart was defrocked by the Assemblies of God in the early 1990s for two separate incidents in which he had been caught soliciting services from prostitutes.
