The Texas-born World Golf Hall of Famer participated in a number of championships, including the Master’s Tournament, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open Championships.
Family
He was married to Idella Adams, with whom he has a daughter called Peggy.
Playing Career
He recorded a top-win at the 1938 PGA Championships and at the 1946 and 1950 U.S. Open Tournaments as well as the 1944 Open Championship.
Apart from playing golf, he also engaged in golf broadcasting. During the early 1960s, he was a commentator for the television show “All Star Golf” and co-hosted “Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf” with American professional golfer Gene Sarazen in 1966.
Honors
The former golfer won the Masters Tournament three times in 1940, 1947 and 1950.
Demaret became a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1983.
He was also the winner of the Vardon Trophy in 1947.
Trivia
The player wore custom-made clothing during tournaments and became a favorite of supporters.
Death
He suffered a heart attack and passed away on December 28, 1983 at the age of 73.
