Personal Life
When he was born, James Richard Leyland was the name he was given. He was interested in sports, especially baseball. He married a lady by name Katie and has a few children with her.
Career
He got signed by the Tigers to be a catcher in 1963 then started working with the Montgomery Rebels as coach. He later worked with Clinton Pilots as a minor league manager in 1972 then, in 1979, he was made the manager of Evansville Triplets.
In 1986, he was made a manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates and worked with them for about ten years. He was later hired in 1997 to become the manager of the Florida Marlins, and with his guidance, they won their first world championship. After a year with them, he moved on to work with Colorado Rockies before the Detroit Tigers hired him to work with them.
Achievements
In 1990, he was awarded a trophy for winning Manager of the Year with the Pirates and went ahead to win the same award about two years later.
