About Jian Ghomeshi
Jian Ghomeshi came into the spotlight as a musician and one of the founders of the group known as Tall New Buildings. After a number of performances and an EP, the collective changed its members to form another team named The Chia Pets, which would later be known as Moxy Früvous after the inclusion of Dave Matheson.
Broadcasting career
In 2002, a year after the group broke up, Ghomeshi began working as a broadcaster. That same year, he was named the presenter of CBC Newsworld's magazine show entitled “Play”. He has also hosted a number of popular shows such as “Q” and “The National Playlist”, both on CBC Radio One.
Sexual assault charges
In 2014, he was grabbed by law enforces and slapped with four different sexual assault charges. He was later set free on a $100,000 bail. He was arrested again the following year and charged with three additional sexual assaults. He was acquitted of all charges in 2016 after the judge admitted that there wasn’t enough evidence against him.
Family
Azar and Farhang Ghomeshi are the names of his parents. He’s the junior brother of Jila Ghomeshi, a Canadian linguist.
Education
He was the president of the students’ council during his time at Thornlea Secondary School. He’s also a product of York University, where he read political science.
Achievements
At the 2010 New York Festivals International Radio Awards, he won a Gold Award for the “Best Talk Show Interview” category. A year before that, NOW Magazine named him “Best Media Personality”.
Trivia
He sued CBC network for $55 million claiming that he was wrongly dismissed by the company.
He has mentioned David Bowie as his childhood idol.
