About Jennifer Granholm
After graduating from law school, Jennifer Granholm worked as a clerk under Damon Keith who was then a Judge at the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She took up other roles before joining the Eastern District of Michigan as an attorney in 1991.
Political career
The Canadian-born American politician began her journey in 1988 when she joined the campaign team of Michael Dukakis. Widely known for her association with the Democratic Party, Granholm served as the Attorney General of Michigan from 1999 to 2003.
After ending her tenure, she was made the state’s governor in 2003 and served in that position until 2011. A decade later, under the leadership of Joe Biden, she was appointed to the office of the U.S. Secretary of Energy.
Other works
Aside from politics, Granholm has also worked as a broadcaster. She’s best known as the host of the political show titled “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm” which premiered on the Current TV network in 2012. Five years later, she joined CNN as a political contributor and has appeared on many shows.
Family
She’s the daughter of Victor Ivar Granholm and Shirley Alfreda Dowden. She has been married to Daniel Mulhern since 1986.
Education
In 1977, she graduated from San Carlos High School and later moved to the University of California, Berkeley. She also studied at Harvard Law School.
Trivia
She was a beauty queen during her time in high school.
Granholm officially became a United States citizen in 1980.
Before starting her career as a lawyer, she took up jobs at a number of organizations including the Los Angeles Times, and Universal Studios.
She appeared on the television show “The Dating Game” in 1978.
