About Jean Peters
Jean Peters was catapulted to fame by three things: her film appearances during her contract with 20th Century Fox Studios in the late 1940s and early 1950s; her marriage to business magnate Howard Hughes; and fiercely resisting attempts to be made a sex symbol. The film actress’ best-known roles include Candy in “Pickup on South Street”, Nellie Halper in “Wait Till the Sun Shines, Nellie” and Anita Hutchins in “Three Coins in the Fountain”.
Family Life
She was the daughter of a laundry manager, Gerald Peters and his wife, Elizabeth Diesel. She was brought up as a Methodist on a farm in East Canton, Ohio. She was married for a few months to Stuart Cramer, an oilman before her second marriage to Howard Hughes which lasted from 1957 to 1971. Her third marriage was to 20th Century Fox executive Stan Hough from 1971 until his 1990 death.
Achievements
She was nominated for a Laurel Award in 1954.
Death
She died on October 13, 2000 from leukemia.
