About Jean-Léon Gérôme
Jean-Léon Gérôme shot to fame in 1846 after publishing his painting titled “The Cock Fight”. Regarded as one of the developers of the academicism style during the 19th Century, the French artist rose to prominence with his numerous works such as “Truth Coming Out of Her Well” and “The Duel After the Masquerade”. Most of his works were centered on Greek mythology and historical events.
Education
He studied at l' École des Beaux-Arts.
Decorations
He received a Légion d'honneur and was selected into some prestigious institutions like the British Royal Academy and the Institut de France. He also received the Grand Order of the Red Eagle from Wilhelm I, then King of Prussia.
Trivia
Aside from his works, Gérôme also trained some well-known painters including Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin and Odilon Redon.
He studied under Charles Gleyre, and Paul Delaroche.
