About Jean Giono
Jean Giono was a French fiction writer during the periods of 1929 to 1970. Apart from writing novels, he also wrote theatre plays and poetry. Examples of his most notable poems are “Accompagnes de la flute” and “La Chute des Anges”.
Family Background
He was the son of Jean-Antoine Giono and Pauline Pourcin. Giono had no education because in order to support his family, he was compelled to start working early.
He was married to Elis Maurin and had two children with her.
Career Highlight
Although Giono became a school dropout, he didn’t give up on reading and he was mostly seen reading books such as the Bible and the Tragiques of Agrippa d’Aubigne.
He served during the First World War and upon his return from the war in 1919, he released his first novel “Colline” in a decade’s time.
His works were initially based on pacifism but he decided to go for a different turn by rather focusing on humans. Some novels that depicted this new transition are “Un roi sans divertissement”, “Le Hussard sur le toit” and “Les Ames fortes”.
Achievement
His first issued work was awarded the Prix Brentano.
The College Jean Giono which can be found in Nice, France is named in honor of him.

He died of a heart attack.
