About Javed Miandad
Javed Miandad began playing cricket at an early age but featured in his first Test game in 1976 when he was around 19 years old. Mostly used as a batsman, he played for the Pakistani Cricket team in a number of competitions including the Cricket World Cup, and the ODI. In 1980, he was named the captain of the team.
On the domestic front, he played for many well-known teams like Habib Bank Limited, Glamorgan, and the Sussex County Cricket Club.
Post retirement
He took up a coaching role after drawing the curtains down on his playing career. In 1998, he was appointed as the head coach of his country’s senior national team. Under his tenure, they won an Asian Test Championship, and a Sharjah Cup.
This cricket legend has also worked with many media organizations as a commentator.
Family
He’s the son of police officer Miandad Noor Mohammad, and grew up alongside three siblings named Sohail Miandad, Bashir Miandad, and Anwar Miandad.
In 1981, he became the husband of Tahira Saigol. They have three children including Junaid Miandad who’s known for his marriage to Dawood Ibrahim’s daughter, Mahrukh Ibrahim.
Awards
He received the Pride of Performance Award in 1986. He was honored with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz medal in 1992, and became an ICC Cricket Hall of Famer in 2009.

Cricket legend Ian Chappell has described him as one of the best batsmen of all-time.
He has also worked with the Pakistan Cricket Board.
