About Jane Henson
Jane Ann Nebel was the birth name of popular American puppeteer Jane Henson. She is best remembered for performing several "Muppets" shows in America.
Background & Education
St. Albans, Queens, was her birthplace and the town in which she spent her entire childhood. She was an alumnus of the University of Maryland, College Park. Henson was also a member of the women fraternity "Alpha Xi Delta."
Career
In the 1950s, she worked with her husband Jim Henson on the live TV show "Sam and Friend." In the show, she collaborated with her husband to perform "Muppets." She also collaborated with Jim Henson to run "Afternoon," – a magazine program focused on housewives.
Together with Jim Henson, they established the Henson Company. In addition, she was a board member of the "American Centre for Children Television" and the "Jim Henson Foundation."
She conceptualized stylizing the Gospel accounts of Jesus's birth into a puppet show, which became the "Jane Henson's Nativity Story," premiered during the Orlando Puppet Festival in 2010.
Personal life
In 1959, she married senior American puppeteer Jim Henson. They had three children. However, in 1986, they separated. They remained friends until Jim died in 1990.
Death
She died at age 78 on April 2, 2013, after being paralyzed by cancer. After her cremation, the Saint Bridge Cemetery, Connecticut, interred her ashes.
