Education and Personal Life
Jamie Babbit’s mother operated a drugs and alcohol addiction management center from which she (Jamie) took inspiration for the 1999 film “But I’m a Cheerleader”. The film starred Clea DuVall, Cathy Moriarty, and Natasha Lyonne.
By age seven, she had appeared in performances at the Cleveland Play House. She graduated from Barnard College with a degree in West African Studies in 1993 and polished her cinema skills with summer classes at the University of New York.
She had two daughters with producer Andrea Sperling, whom she met in 1996 during the production of “If These Walls Could talk”.
Career

She assisted in the production of Martin Scorsese’s “Age of Innocence” and collaborated with Kusama and Kosovic on Sayle’s “The Secret of Roan Inish” during her internship.
The next phase of her career centered on supervising screenplays, including Duigan’s “The Journey of August King” and “The Game” by David Fincher.
Jamie Babbit proceeded to earn credit for directing such films as the 1996 “Frog Crossing”.
In 2007, her feminist-themed “Itty Bitty Titty Committee” received a Teddy Award nomination. The film starred Daniel Sea, Carly Pope and Melonie Diaz.

Besides films, the Ohio-born filmmaker has garnered more credit for the production and direction of several episodes of TV shows, including Showtime’s “The L Word”, “Gossip Girl”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, and Craig Wright’s “Dirty Sexy Money”.
