His first novel titled The Thomas Berryman Number was published in 1976. He went on to publish several other novels. His breakthrough came in 1993 with the publishing of Along Came a Spider.

He got married to Sue Solie in 1997. A year after the marriage, the couple had a son named Jack.
His Achievements
Patterson entered into the Guinness World Records for being the first author to sell 1 million e-books. In November 2015, he was given the Literarian Award from the National Book Foundation.
