About James Newton Howard
After his college education, James Newton Howard joined a band known as Mama Lion where he performed alongside artistes like singer Lynn Carey and bassist Neil Merryweather. He went on to work with other prominent musicians before joining Elton John’s band in 1975.
With the band, he was mostly used as a keyboardist. During the 1970s and 80s he helped John to record many hit songs such as "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart".
Movie scores
Howard has found fame for his scores on more than 100 movies. Some popular films that he has worked on include 2005’s “King Kong” and “The Fugitive” which premiered in 1993.
Family
He has been married to Sophie Howard since 1992 and the couple are blessed with two kids named Hayden and Jackson. Before his marriage to Sophie, he was the husband of American actress Rosanna Arquette.
Education
He attended the Music Academy of the West, and the Thacher School before starting his education at the University of Southern California.
Awards
Howard won a Grammy Award in 2009 for his work on the movie titled “The Dark Knight”. That same year, he received a Saturn Award.
His work “Gideon's Crossing” earned him an Emmy Award in 2001. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award on many occasions.
