About James Durbin
The time series analysis is a series of data points mainly taken at equally placed points, this style of data collection aids in the organization and understanding of the underlying causes of trends or systemic patterns over time. This newfound way of analyzing data was coined by British statistician James Durbin.
Early Life
The statistician enrolled in Wade Deacon Grammar School and then went on to graduate from St John's College. Durbin served with the Army Operational Research Group and later joined the Shoe and Allied Trades Research Association as a statistician. He wanted an in-depth knowledge of the statistical world and this prompted him to attain his master's degree at Cambridge.
Career
Durbin spent most of his years on mathematical research and later became a part of the London School of Economics in 1950. He rose to the role of professor of statistics from 1961 to 1988. During his time of active service, Durbin coined numerous statistical theories such as Time series analysis, Serial correlation, Durbin–Watson statistic, and Levinson–Durbin algorithm.
Accomplishments
The statistician served as the Royal Statistical Society president from 1986–1987.
He also won a Guy Medal in 1966, 1976, and 2008.
