About Jacques Offenbach
Jacques was a French composer born in Germany. He was an impresario and cellist and was more popular in the period from 1850’s to the1870’s.
Personal Life
At birth, he was named Jakob Offenbach. He was from a Jewish family. He was a descendant of musicians and his father was a violin player. At the young age of six, he started learning to play the violin from his father and by the time he was eight, he had started composing songs and he started playing the cello a year later. His father moved him and his brother Julius to Paris to the college of music named Paris Conservatoire. His age and nationality affected him but as soon as Luigi Cherubini, who at the time was the director of the school, heard him play, he accepted him into the school.
Career
He joined the Opéra-Comique as a cellist in 1835. He started playing at salons in Paris. He further went on tours in France, England and Germany to earn more and did.
Death
He died in 1880 due to heart failure caused by acute gout.
