About Jacques Marquette
Jacques Marquette was a 17th century Jesuit missionary from France. He was the founder of Sault Sainte Marie and Saint Ignace. With the company of Louis Jolliet, they became the first Europeans who explored and mapped Mississippi’s River Valley northern portion. Marquette became a member of the Society of Jesus during his teenage years in 1654.
