About Jacques Lacan
Jacques Lacan was a French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst whose notable ideas such as the Mirror phase and The Symbolic not only influenced numerous French intellectuals but also had a great impact on post-structuralism and French philosophy. He also made name for himself as an interpreter of the works of Austrian psychoanalyst and neurologist Sigmund Freud.
Family Life
He was the oldest of three children born to Emilie and Alfred Lacan. He got married to Marie-Louise Blondin in 1934. The couple had their first child, Caroline, in 1937. Their second child, Thibaut, was born in 1939.
Trivia
He and his family had a bitter quarrel when he decided to abandon religion and become an atheist in the 1920s.
