About Jack Glasscock
He was an American sportsman who played baseball professionally in the capacity of a shortstop between 1879 and 1895 for some great teams.
Personal Life
Wesley Glasscock is the name given to him when his parents, Julia Collette and Thomas Glasscock, had him. His father was a carpenter and watching his father work got him interested in the trade so even though he was enrolled in school, he dropped out to work as a carpenter.
Career
He started playing in the 1870’s starting with the Cleveland Blues then in 1884, he joined Cincinnati Outlaw Reds. He, however, did not stay with them for long and moved on to play for the St. Louis Maroons between 1885 and 1886.
In 1887, Indianapolis Hoosiers got him to join them for about a year then he moved on to play for the New York Giants. His time there was also short so his next stop was St. Louis Browns, where he played for about a year before moving to the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1895, he became a player for the Louisville Colonels before joining the Washington Senators in the same year.
Cause of Death
In 1947 when he was almost ninety years old, he suffered a stroke and passed away.
