About Ivor Novello
Coming from a family with a rich history in the music scene, it came as no surprise when Ivor Novello started making a name for himself in the entertainment industry. He began his career as a songwriter, and in 1914, he wrote the patriotic song titled "Keep the Home Fires Burning".
The Welsh singer, composer and actor rose to stardom three years later when he was featured on the musical titled “Theodore & Co”. His frequent collaboration with English singer Zena Dare played a huge role in her rise to stardom.
Acting Career
Novello turned his attention to acting after World War I. He starred in many stage and film productions between the 1920s and 1940s. Some popular films that he appeared in were “Downhill” and “The Lodge”.
Family
His original name was David Ivor Davies and was the son of famous singer Clara Novello Davies and David Davies. Until his death, he was in a relationship with actor Bobbie Andrews.
Legacy
An award to honor composers and songwriters was established and named after him in 1955.
Trivia
Some popular stage shows that he was featured in were “King's Rhapsody” and “Glamorous Night”.
