Swedish-born sportsman Ingemar Stenmark is among the best skiers of his country. The Alpine ski racer won his first national competition at a young age. He is known for the wins he secured at numerous international races.

He got married to Tarja Olli and has two children, one from Olli and the other from his first wife.
Skiing Career
His first appearance in skiing was in December 1973, featuring at just the age of 17. The Swede’s career saw him compete in skiing events like Downhill, Super-G, and Combined. He is hardly seen performing in other events like the Freestyle Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Sky Jumping because he doesn’t feel right with the speed required in those events.
He participated in competitions like World Championships and Winter Olympics. He competed with renowned skiers like Stig Strand and the Russian Cross Country skier Raisa Smetanina .
Awards
He has received quite a number of awards. He won three world cup titles continuously from 1976 to 1978. During the World Cup Championships held in some parts of Germany, he gained the slalom by two thirds of a second and a giant slalom after completing in about two seconds.
Stenmark walked away with two gold medals at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games at Lake Placid.
Trivia
He was forbidden from participating in the 1984 Winter Olympics because he agreed to take a promotional payment from a direct source rather than taking from the national federation.

As of 2021, he holds the title for the biggest win-margin in a World cup Alpine race with the finishing time of 4.06 seconds.
