About Ingeborg Bachmann
She was a literary icon from Austria who was an author and a poet and received a lot of prizes and awards for her talent in putting together her writings.
Personal Life
She was the daughter of a teacher by name Matthias Bachmann and Olga Haas and she had a brother and sister. When she was ready to gain a tertiary education, she got into different universities including University Of Graz and University of Vienna. She broadened her knowledge on psychology and philosophy among others.
In 1950, she was with Paul Celan but their union lasted for two years. In 1957, they were again together but that did not last. In 1958, she got together with Max Frisch but in 1963, the relationship ended.
Career & Major Works
Some of Bachmann’s works were “Die gestundete Zeit”, “Darkness Spoken: The Collected Poems of Ingeborg Bachmann” and “Der Prinz von Homburg”.
Drug Abuse & Death
She suffered from drug and alcohol abuse at a point in her life. Her friend stated that her abuse was really high as it looked like she took about a hundred pills a day. It became obvious that her life was slipping away.
In 1973, she sustained severe burns after her nightgown got into fire. She was rushed to the hospital, however, passed away not long after.
