Ian McEwan, also known by the nickname "Ian Macabre", is a seasoned English novelist and screenwriter regarded as one of the best British writers of his generation. He is known for publishing several famous novels such as 1978's The Cement Garden, 1981's The Comfort of Strangers and 2001's Atonement, which was later adapted into the Academy Award-nominated 2007 film Atonement.
Personal Life
He was married to Penry Allen from 1982 to 1995. The marriage produced two sons. His second marriage was to Annalena McAfee in 1997.
Awards
Over the years, he has won a number of prestigious awards, including a Booker Prize in 1998 and a Jerusalem Prize in 2011.
Trivia
He is an outspoken atheist.
