About Ian Gillan
Influenced by the Elvis Presley records he listened to while growing up, English singer-songwriter Ian Gillan started performing in local bands at 17 years old, in the early 1960s. One of his earliest bands was the Javelins, which disbanded in 1964. From there, he played with Episode Six until the late 1960s when he left the band.
He is famous for being the lead singer and lyricist for Deep Purple, an English rock band into which he was recruited in 1969.
Family Life
He was born to a London factory storekeeper, Bill Gillan and his wife, Audrey. He was raised alongside a younger sister named Pauline. Since 1984, he has been married to Bron, with whom he has a daughter called Grace.
Achievements
He received the Order of Honour from the Prime Minister of Armenia in 2009 for his charity work in the country.
Trivia
He joined hands with Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath to form WhoCares, a supergroup aimed at raising money for charity in Armenia.
