Hugo von Hofmannsthal was a renowned writer who produced many plays, essays, novels and poem collections. His association with Richard Strauss, a celebrated German composer, played a huge part in his rise to fame.
With Strauss, the Austrian writer worked on many operas such as “Der Rosenkavalier” and “Elektra”. In 1907, he started writing a novel titled “Andreas oder Die Vereinigten”.

His parents were Hugo August Peter Hofmann, a bank manager, and Anna Maria Josefa Fohleutner. His great-grandfather was the wealthy merchant Isaak Löw Hofmann, Edler von Hofmannsthal. He had three kids with Gertrud Schlesinger named Raimund, Christiane, and Franz.
