About Hugo Sánchez
Hugo Sánchez is a football coach and an ex-football striker from Mexico. He has been recognized as one of the all-time best players in the history of Mexican football. He was ranked as the 26th greatest striker of the 20th century in 1999 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. Again, his name was included in the 2004 FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players.
As of 2021, he is ranked as the 3rd foreigner with the most goals in La Liga. Sánchez is also the 4th striker with the most goals in the said league.
In 1976, he made his first senior career appearance for UNAM. He has made 58 appearances for the Mexico senior national team, scoring 26 goals. Sánchez netted 485 goals in 822 matches he played for his clubs. Some of the top clubs he played for include Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Rayo Vallecano.
In 2000, Sánchez made his coaching debut for UNAM. He has managed a few teams including Necaxa, Almería, Pachuca, and Mexico's senior national team. As a coach, he won several trophies which include La Liga Best Replacement Manager in the 2008-2009 season and Campeón de Campeones with UNAM in 2004.

His father is Héctor Sánchez. He got married to Isabel. Sánchez fathers two children including Hugo Sánchez Portugal.
Awards
He was won three different titles with UNAM, which include the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in the 1980-1981 season, and the Copa Interamericana in 1980. He also won the Copa del Rey trophy with Atlético Madrid in the 1984 to 1985 season. Again, he won five La Liga titles with Real Madrid, one UEFA Cup, Copa del Rey and three Supercopa de España.
Additionally, he won the European Golden Shoe in 1990 and the Golden Foot Legends Award in 2010. Sánchez was also a five-time La Liga top goalscorer.
