Hugh Grant is an English actor who is best known for his roles in the most successful romantic comedies of the 90's, including “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “The Englishman Who Went Up the Hill But Came Down a Mountain” and “Mickey Blue Eyes”.
Career Highlights
Grant made his screen debut in the first theatrical film “Privileged” in 1982. After that year, he participated in some jobs in the entertainment industry such as writing radio commercials until he was discovered by an agent. Soon after his discovery, he appeared in films such as “The Bounty '', “Maurice”, and “The Liar of the White Worm”.
Grant almost gave up on acting but after he received the scripts for the film “Four Weddings and a Funeral” he had a change of mind. This film was what brought him to the limelight. The film became one of the best comedy movies and it landed him a Golden Globe Award for “Best Actor”.
His films have grossed more than 2 billion American dollars worldwide, and as of 2022, he is regarded as one of the most successful comedy actors of all time.
The television series he has made appearances in are “The Last Place on Earth”, “The Lady and the Highwayman”, “One Red Nose Day and a Wedding” and “A Very Easy Scandal”.
He makes an appearance in “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, a 2023 comedy film that sees him play the character of Forge Fletcher.
Awards
He has received a number of nominations of which includes a Dorian Award nomination for “TV Performance of the Year-Actor” for the series “A Very English Scandal”. To add up, he was nominated by MTV Movie Awards for “Best Breakthrough Performance” in the comedy film “Four Weddings and a Funeral”
Controversy.
Grant had divulged a secret conversation with Paul McMullan, who once worked as a tabloid journalist. He published the conversation in the New Stateman’s article and titled it as “The Bugger, Bugged”. The main focus of the conversation was how according to Paul McMullan, some journalists from the Daily Mail allegedly engage in illegal phone hacking.
Personal Life and Education
He was the second child of Captain James Murray Grant and Fynvola Susan MacLean. The institutions he was educated at are Hogarth Primary School, Wetherby School, Latymer Upper School and New College at the University of Oxford.
He was married to actress Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years. He has 3 children from his other relationships through the years.
Trivia
In 1995, he was arrested for engaging in oral intercourse in a public place with prostitute Divine Brown.
