About Hidilyn Diaz
Hidilyn Diaz is a prominent figure in the sport of weightlifting. The Filipino athlete, who is also an airwoman, gained global attention after she became an Olympic gold medal winner at the 2020 tournament held in Japan.
At the above-mentioned event, Diaz won the 55kg weightlifting women’s competition. Her victory also made her the first athlete from her country to win gold in a non-exhibition sporting event at the Olympic Games.
Prior to that, she won silver at the 53kg women’s weightlifting category at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

As a successful weightlifter, Diaz has been at the receiving end of numerous national and international awards. At the Philippine Sportswriters Association awards in 2017 she was named “Athlete of the Year”. She has also been honored with several accolades from the Philippine House of Representatives.

She is her parents’ fifth child. She has five siblings. Her father, Eduardo Diaz has worked in various fields including working as a fisherman. Her mother is named Emelita Diaz.
The Filipino star has been in a romantic relationship with fellow weightlifter and weightlifting coach, Julius Naranjo. They first met in 2017.
Military Career
Diaz joined the Philippine Air Force in 2013. Her career in the military has seen her receive several medals including the Military Merit Medal.
