Personal Life
He was born to Takuya Anno and Fumiko Anno and was enrolled in Wakō Kindergarten before attending Unoshima Municipal Elementary School. From there, he got into Fujiyama Municipal Junior High School. While in school, he started showing interest in acting and went on to receive his tertiary education from Osaka University of Arts.
Career
He started working as an animator and putting together a few films. He invested a lot of money into the films, this made him unable to finance his education and dropped out of school. He ventured into acting and got featured in shows like “Return of Ultraman: MAT Arrow 1 Takeoff Order”, “Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi”, “The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness”, “Welcome to the Quiet Room” and “The Taste of Tea”.
Achievements
During the 18th Nihon SF Taisho Award in 1997, he won an award for his work on “Neon Genesis Evangelion”. Twenty years on, he received the award for best screenplay regarding his work on “Shin Godzilla” during the 90th Kinema Junpo Awards. The same film got him the director of the year award during the 40th edition of the Japan Academy Prize event.
