About Hergé
Hergé was the pen name of Georges Prosper Remi, a Belgian-French cartoonist. He is remembered best for his comic album series, “The Adventures of Tintin”. He started out as an illustrator for magazines operated by Scouts.
In 1926, he started publishing his first comic strip series, “The Adventures of Totor”. His other popular comic strip series include “The Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko” and “Quick and Flupke”.
He is the creator of the drawing style referred to as ligne claire and has been praised for his clear drawings and careful and informed plots.
Family Life
He descended from the Flemish through his housewife mother, Elisabeth Dufour and the Walloon people through his confectionary factory worker father, Alexis Remi. He was first married to Germaine Kieckens, a secretary, magazine editor and writer from 1932 to 1977. He married Fanny Rodwell, his second wife in 1977.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the Eisner Award Hall of Fame and the Harvey Award Jack Kirby Hall of Fame.
Death
He died while recovering in a hospital from cardiac arrest on March 3, 1983. He had been undergoing treatment for osteomyelofibrosis since 1979.
