About Henry Morgan
Henry Morgan’s origins may not have been known, but he remains in the books of history as one of the most famous privateers of all time. He was stationed in Jamaica’s Port Royal, from where he went on looting expeditions. He was known to have invested the money he made from raiding settlements and ships within the Spanish Main in sugar plantations. Other places he later attacked included Panama City, Gibraltar, Puerto Principe and Porto Bello.
Family Life
He was married to Mary Elizabeth. The couple never had any children.
Other Ventures
Because of his sugar plantations, he subsequently became the owner of a large number of African slaves who worked on his plantations. Later on, he was appointed a Knight Bachelor by Charles II of England. He also became a Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica.
Death
He died on August 25, 1688, in Jamaica.
