About Henry IV of France
Henry IV ruled as the King of France between 1589 and 1610. Prior to ascending the throne, he served as the King of Navarre. He’s mostly remembered for his victories in wars and adaptation of Catholicism. Historians have also hinted that he was able to regularize the state’s finances, as well as, promoting education and agriculture. He was also instrumental in ending the War of the Jülich Succession.
Family
His original name was Henry de Bourbon, and was the son of Antoine de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme and Queen Joan III of Navarre. In 1572, he married Margaret of Valois but got separated in 1599. He later married Marie de' Medici in 1600.
Death
He was stabbed to death by François Ravaillac in 1610.
Trivia
He was otherwise known as "the good king Henry" or “Henri le Grand”.
